IWY6 – Scarborough: THE BOOK

From 28th-30th July, 2011 I’m with you took over UK artist Kane Cunningham’s Cliffside “House” in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Our group of artists responded to the space in a series of performances-for-documentation. The resulting performances-for-documentation were composed of bathtub conversations, embroidered text, improvised type-writing, forensic evidence and scatological fiction.  They also subtly recorded the precarity inscribed in this site, from the literal and conceptual precarity Cunningham emphasises in his own discourse around his project, to the interpersonal tensions, conflicts and failures of understanding that often place community-based artworks on the edge.

This book, designed by Vanessa O’Reilly and Emma Leslie, is a tangible product of the interactions from that residency, made possible the generous support of I’m with you audiences.

Artists participating in IWY Scarborough included project organizers Christa Holka, Johanna Linsley and R. Justin Hunt, and artists Eirini Kartsaki, Liz Rosenfeld, Jan Mertens, Owen Glyndwyr Parry, Season Butler and Sophie Robinson. The resulting publication was designed by Vanessa O’Reilly and Emma Leslie.

You can purchase the book for £7 (plus additional shipping). Your purchase offers a glimpse into our weekend, the work, and supports future residencies. Click above on “Store” or click here to purchase now.

I’m with you: Occupy London

I’m with you is going to erupt at the Bank of Ideas on Sun Street in London, next Thursday on the 8th of December from 20:00-23:00.

Join us for a coordinated set of un-harmonious performance outbursts, as friends of I’m with you contribute song-length flash performances to the growing alternative investment structure.

The event will be a collaborative, simply produced presentation of complicated (or not so complicated) ideas, emotions and experiences related to occupation, solidarity, righteous anger and desire (with a healthy dose of ridiculosity, glamour and hysteria).

I’m with you (6) – Scarborough sounds

Check out this fantastic piece by Jan Mertens, composed entirely from sounds recorded on location at Knipe Point in Scarborough!

I’m with you: Publication, Performance and Party!

I’m with you. And everything is happening.

In July, 2011, nine of us traveled to Scarborough in North Yorkshire to take up residence at 20 Knipe point, a small bungalow perched on the edge of an eroding cliff. According to the National Trust, the house should have gone over the cliff eighteen months ago, but it’s still hanging on.

The idea was everyone would have their own project, or some people could work in pairs, and the projects would be either planned in advance or develop in response to the house, or else some combination. The main rule was each project would get four pages in a publication we would make, or the pairs would get eight pages.

On 14 October, 2011 we’ll be previewing the ensuing publication at Vogue Fabrics, coinciding with the Frieze Festival. Preview  copies and ordering information will be available.

To celebrate, from 9-10pm, we’ve lined up performers Owen Glyndwr Parry & Eirini Kartsaki to present an episode of their scatologically epic Lola and Steve series; Brian Lobel and Season Butler both put their bodies on the line with beautiful/hilarious performance interventions; and musician/artist Áine O’Dwyer and friends bring occult/experimental harp songs.

From 10pm, some of our favorite London DJs take over the dancefloor. Sets from Jenny Woolworth, Princess Michael, Bright Light Bright Light and David Oh will bring sparkling, rapturous, sweaty joy until late hours!

Please join us for these glamorous times!
